Sugar for your Sugar…

Warm weather (which is exactly what we have had lately) makes me think of the hot sun, the beach, shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. But it also makes me think of all the food we have at cookouts (including desserts)! SO how happy was I when I came across this article from Modern Dog magazine? Talk about QUICK and EASY recipes. Modern Dog has featured three recipes – Poochy Pupsicles, Savoury Pupsicles and a third one that is listed without a cute name. I say we call it Some Sugar for Your Sugar. This last one is great for those that might be feeling lazy OR busy (like me).

Lucky for us – we happened to have a watermelon around for recipe No. 3.

  • We cut up some watermelon cubes and tossed them in a plastic bag to stiffen them up a bit. Next time, I may get fancier.

Dogs who are scaredy cats..

Dont call me a scaredy cat!

A few weeks ago we were making pancakes and the smoke alarm went off.  As I was waving a magazine at it to clear up the smoke I saw Chunyo  shaking like a leaf.  It took a few minutes but he eventually calmed down.  Well this past weekend, we made pancakes again (yum!). The smoke alarm did NOT go off this time.  But wouldn’t you know it – Chunyo was shaking again.  It took a few minutes but after reading his body language we realized that he now associates the smell of the pancakes with the smoke alarm.  Amazing!  Poor thing..

Here is an article from Modern Dog magazine on dog’s body language.    Read below to see what they say about dogs who are feeling fearful.  The picture above confirms it – Chunyo is scared of smoke alarms!

“Dogs can move their ears independently and almost 180 degrees from the front to the back. In general, consider that the more forward your dog’s ears are, the more confident he is about a given situation. The further back and pinned against his head and neck your dog’s ears are, the more fearful he is.”

Bostons featured in Modern Magazine

Modern Dog magazine is featuring different breeds – so far they have 32.  Guess what??  Yep, they featured the Boston Terrier!  So hurry up and sneak a peek – especially those Boston lovers out there or those who might be considering adding one to your pack.  But if you are neither (we won’t be offended), there are lots of other breeds featured including Boxers, French Bulldogs and Golden Retrievers.  Check it out and see if your dog’s breed (or its mix) made the list.

Here’s a short excerpt about Boston Terriers. They hit it right on the nail.

“Their spunky personalities endear them to their human companions. They’re intelligent, well-mannered, alert, and rambunctious. Easy to train and frequently effective watchdogs, the Boston Terrier is good with children and tender with elders. However, as we all know, nothing in life is perfect. Much the same as Uncle Cecil, the Boston Terrier is prone to snoring. And like a bad prom date, prone to drooling as well. But if you can handle the nighttime sonorous symphony and the occasional slobber splatter, you just may have a new pal.”

P.S.  Like many other Bostons out there, Chunyo snores (loud).  In fact, he is snoring right now 😉

"Intelligent, well-mannered, alert, and rambunctious." That is me!! 🙂
